Polyurea vs. epoxy

Why our system

Our floors are a polyurea base coat finished with a clear polyaspartic top coat — not epoxy. Here's what the owner says sets it apart:

  • 4x stronger than epoxy
  • Flexes with the movement of your floor
  • Should never chip or peel
  • UV stable, so it won't fade or discolor in the sun
  • Clear polyaspartic top coat seals everything in and brightens flake colors

Questions

Frequently asked

How long before I can walk or drive on my new floor?

In warmer weather, 24 hours to walk on and 72 hours to drive on. In colder weather, 48 hours to walk on and 96 hours to drive on.

What is the flake made of?

The flake is made of a biodegradable, nontoxic vinyl.

What are you going to do about the cracks and pitting?

After we diamond grind the floor, we vacuum up all the dust and cut open any and all cracks. We fill the cracks and pitting with our 2-part repair material, then grind it back down smooth once it's cured.

How do you control the dust?

We use vacuums with HEPA filters that suck up most of the dust. Some dust does get airborne, but we clean that up before we top coat the floor.

How is your floor different from epoxy?

Our system is a polyurea base coat with a clear polyaspartic top coat. The owner states it is 4x stronger than epoxy, flexes with the movement of your floor, should never chip or peel, and is UV stable, so it won't fade or discolor in the sun.

What's the difference between a flake floor and a shop floor?

Decorative floors get vinyl flake broadcast into the polyurea. Shop floors get sand broadcast into the polyurea instead of flake. Both are finished with a clear polyaspartic top coat.
